Pricing Marketing

Are your prices sending the right message?

A couple of weeks ago I was browsing online for a project management tool and noticed something interesting: some prices didn’t just create friction, they also shaped how I felt about each brand, even though I barely knew them. My perception of each option was being guided by price alone.

And it’s true: pricing sends a message. Today, I’ll explain why it matters and how to use it.

🔍 This Week’s Focus

Pricing Is Marketing Too

Pricing is more than numbers.

It’s a message about your brand. High prices signal exclusivity. Low prices signal accessibility.

The key is alignment:

  • If you promise innovation and top-tier results, your price needs to reinforce that.

  • If you stand for affordability and convenience, your price should make that clear.

But it’s not only about the number, it’s also about how you present it. Clear tiers, simple design, and confidence in presentation all shape how customers see your value.

Focus on 3 things

  1. Match your price to your brand story.

  2. Show the benefits behind the price.

  3. Test small changes to see what people really value.

Different pricing schemes also shape perception in their own way:

  • Subscriptions: Reliability and ongoing value.

  • Per-user / pay-per-use: Flexibility and fairness.

  • Tiered packages: Choice and scalability.

  • Freemium: Accessibility.

💡 Pricing always sends a message. Is yours intentional or accidental?

IRL Example

Salesforce

They use tiered pricing to communicate sophistication and capability. Small businesses can start with basic plans, while enterprise clients pay more for extensive customization and support. The price reflects the brand promise: a powerful, reliable CRM that scales with a company’s needs.
