As we learned in a previous edition, marketing isn’t magic, it’s testing. And testing means working with numbers.
But in marketing, there are so many numbers and data points that it can get confusing. Let’s see how focusing on the right numbers can make all the difference in your marketing.
🔍 This Week’s Focus
Know Your Metrics: Vanity and Actionable
In marketing, numbers are everything. And not all numbers are the same. Some are called “Vanity Metrics”, like likes, page views, and followers. These show your brand’s reach and awareness, helping you see who’s noticing you.
Then there are actionable metrics, which dig deeper into how your marketing actually affects business results. These include:
Conversion rate: The percentage of visitors who take a desired action, like making a purchase
Customer acquisition cost: How much you spend to gain each new customer
Customer lifetime value: The total revenue a customer brings over the time they stay with your business
💡 How to balance both: Use vanity metrics to measure your audience size and awareness, and actionable metrics to track marketing effectiveness and guide your next steps.
Example
Imagine you own a coffee shop. More “likes” on your posts mean more people know about you (vanity metric). But tracking how many visitors actually buy a coffee after seeing your post (conversion rate) shows if your marketing is turning attention into sales.

🌐 Digital & Social Snapshot
LinkedIn now shows fewer posts that ask for comments (like “Comment YES if…”). Instead, it highlights posts with useful knowledge, especially from experts in specific topics. They’re also launching ‘Collaborative Articles,’ which begin as AI-written pieces on professional topics. Experts then add their real-life advice, making the articles richer and helping you get noticed for your knowledge.
B2B digital growth hits new heights: In 2025, 80% of B2B sales are projected to happen online.
Facing potential traffic loss from Google’s new AI Mode, Reddit is overhauling its search with integrated AI Q&A, aiming to become a direct information hub instead of relying on Google referrals.
